16.09.2014 - Tschudi - SECA Surcharge as from the 1st January 2015

On behalf of our represented liner principal Tschudi Logistics, please see the following announcement:

QUOTE
Following the new EU environmental legislation effective from 1st of January 2015 the vessels operating in the Baltic Sea/North Sea SECA will have to reduce sulphur emissions
considerably which will benefit the environment.

The sulphur contents in the fuel burnt by vessels in SECA will not exceed 0.1% as from 1st of January 2015. Today the suplhur contents is 1%. In reality, in order to comply with new legislation, the vessels will have to switch from
Intermediate Fuel Oil (IFO) to Marine Gas Oil (MGO). The latter is cleaner and more environmentally friendly but naturally more expensive than IFO (by about 50%). It will have significant impact on the line’s operational expenses. Preliminary calculation based on today’s price difference shows that the fuel costs per TEU will increase by EUR 45 (EUR 45/20’, EUR 90/40’, EUR 101,25/45’). This in addition to the current BAF. Respective BAF adjustment will be announced on the 1st of December 2014 based on MGO November average price. The new BAF will be effective from 1st of January 2015. We would like to point out that above mentioned figure is an indication only. The final figure will depend on the actual IFO and MGO prices in the end of this year.

22.08.2014 - UAL-Universal Africa Lines: Ebola Virus West Africa

On behalf of our represented liner principal Universal Africa Lines, please see the following announcement:

We take it that you all may have heard the news by now about the present Ebola virus which infected some West African countries (Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone where actual cases occurred). Apart from this very serious human situation there are West African countries like Cameroon and Gabon which are not allowing ships to enter which are coming from these infected countries. This certainly will have its effect on most of the other West African countries and we expect that they will take their measures too. We already heard that some West African countries will implement a quarantine period for ships coming from infected countries before they will be allowed to enter and/or berth.

Ships which are presently on their way to West Africa and have been loaded in such a way that it has cargo on board for Nigeria as first port of call/discharge and after that will be calling the other West African countries which will be refused to enter into these other West African ports.

UAL will monitor this very closely and keep their clients informed about any developments if and when and when UAL needs to take any action and/or decision in this respect we will inform you if the situation force us to.

For any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
